Basic Concepts
The Containers Module tracks and manages containers owned or operated by the organization. It records detailed container information, including physical specifications and events. Each container is defined by its parameters and by the history of its usage.
Container History and Events
The container’s usage history is recorded as a sequence of events that affect the container. Events include activities such as loading, discharge, sale, and repair. One event can involve multiple containers. For each container, an event generates a history record showing the container’s state before and after the event.
Loading / Discharge: Recording when containers are loaded onto or unloaded from vessels.
Sale: Recording the sale or transfer of ownership of containers.
Repair / Maintenance: Recording any repair or maintenance work on containers.
Integration with Other Modules
Some events link directly to other system modules:
Voyage Module: Container loading and discharge events are tied to port call records in the Voyage Module, ensuring vessel operations involving containers are tracked across modules.
Maintenance & Repair (M&R) Module: Container service and repair operations managed by external organizations are defined in the M&R Module. These operations appear as events in the Containers Module, creating corresponding container history entries.
Container Leasing
Containers are often leased under specific lease agreements. The Containers Module includes a dedicated Lease Agreements module object to capture key details. The lease agreement records:
Lease Agreement Parameters | Description |
Lessor | Organization providing the containers |
Lease Period | Start and end dates of the lease agreement |
Container Set | List of containers included in the lease |
Transfer Conditions | Terms for transferring containers |
Spare Parts Management
The module also manages Spare Parts inventory for containers. This includes both standard kit parts and specialized components:
Standard (Kit) Parts: Original kit components that come with containers.
Specialized Parts: Custom or additional components for specific container models.
Tracking spare parts ensures that replacement component availability is aligned with container maintenance needs.
Summary
The Containers Module is designed to manage and monitor shipping containers under the organization's control.
This integrated approach ensures that at any time, the organization can see exactly where each container is, its full event history, any lease obligations attached, and the parts inventory needed for its upkeep — providing a comprehensive, real-time view of container assets and their status.
